Learning from Experience

Learnership Programme - the path to the future.

They say education is everything. It wards off ignorance, it helps to advance opportunity, it helps to drive compromise and success. But there is nothing like experience as a catalyst to learning, which then leads people to new levels of success.

In the world of fast paced technology, up and coming IT students can only gain an advantage by having experience. This is why our Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise channel partner, Mighty Comms, created the Learnership Programme. The program empowers learners to gain a SAQA accredited system support qualification and achieve workplace readiness.

Since 2017, Mighty Comms Learnership Programme has been a great and fast way to introduce students to a workplace environment and to assist with real experience they would face in the job-market. As part of the course, learners have six months of practicals, which includes hands-on experience in a range of IT and ICT areas. During the latter six months, the learners embarked on a rigorous program that fast-tracks them to levels normally achieved over three years of work experience! Most of these students walk away with more than the System support qualification and have been certified on numerous courses which range across the follow areas:
•    Technical: design, configure and install
•    PABX, Switches, servers, routers, biometric access control, Network cabling
•    Network security
•    Microsoft suite of products
•    Banking Swift messaging platforms (fraud detection)
•    Research methodology
•    Customer care
•    Report writing

Mighty Comms efforts have led them to partner with IT and ICT industry giants who have hosted some of the participants for workplace experience. These partners go beyond the requirements of the program and have  made substantial investment in the students, and the future. One such partner included Alcatel Lucent Enterprise (SA). For me, it’s important that the company I work for invest in the future – in technology and people, and that’s why I share this story.
